The Pinterest analytics dashboard is a wealth of information and tracking your metrics should be an important part of your routine. It should only take you like 10-15 minutes a month to jot down some info, and determine if you’re on the right track. Here’s 3 reasons why you should track your metrics on something like My Pinterest Planner, and what exactly you should track.
1). You will have access to your data in the event your website gets disconnected from Pinterest. Yes, this happens- usually due to glitches. Summer of 2022, if you updated your profile Bio, it unlinked your Pinterest account from your website. This glitch lasted for MONTHS. And if no website is connected, it forgets all past data. When you re-claim your website, it starts tracking again starting from that date but all past information is still lost.
2). You’ll be able to watch seasonal trends and YOY growth better. Pinterest analytics only goes back so far. And it changes. I currently cannot look at the best performing pins from last summer, which would be super helpful information to know when you’re facing “the summer slump” or what converted last christmas. What if you want to see if the dip in traffic is “normal” compared to the past two years or if something is wrong. You can do that almost instantly with my Pinterest Planner.
3) You can compare multiple metrics at once. If you want to compare impressions to saves, great! Pinterest can do that. But what if you really want to throw outbound clicks in the mix. (see this post on why you might do that- interpreting analytics). Pinterest will only let you compare two metrics at a time- which is super frustrating when you want to get a solid analysis at a glance.
There’s a lot of different metrics you can view on Pinterest, and it ultimately comes down to your preference, but here’s the top ones i’d definitely keep track of in The Pinterest Planner.
Other than that, Here’s a few more things I’d add to the data that will come in handy in the future.
It sounds like a lot, but I promise it’s not. My Pinterest Planner makes it super easy because it’s already built out, and has instructions on how to use it. All you have to do is fill it in.
Besides business analytics, it also keeps you organized with places to track:
