Pinterest has made many changes to their Best Practices over the last few years. If you’ve recently come back from a Pinterest marketing hiatus, or are brand new to the platform, you might be surprised at how many (or few!) pins you need to post each day. But before I get into that, let’s learn some history so you know what to NOT do:
When I was learning Pinterest management around 2020, the common practice was to pin at least 30 pins per day. This included a small portion of fresh (or brand new) pins, and a ton of repins (or pins that are already on Pinterest). Even today, people will still tell you to pin 30, 50, even 70 pins per day! There’s even still information like this floating around:
If the thought of pinning 7 pins an hour has you ready to stop right now, keep reading. Pinterest has changed its focus to more fresh content and less recirculating existing content.
What does that mean? Two tings:
Well, that’s going to depend on how old your account is and how much content you have. The more URL’s you have the more fresh pins you can make. As a general rule, regardless if you’re coming back to Pinterest or starting fresh, I always recommend with just a few pins per day and work your way up. This will help either revive your old account or establish a new account’s authority without tripping the spam filter. After about a month, you can gradually add more to your daily schedule.
While Pinterest has no set limit on how many pins you can post per day (can you imagine limiting large brands like Target to 5 pins?), I find that most of the accounts I manage do really with between 5-10 fresh pins per day.
So do you need to repin other’s pins? Not if you don’t want to. I repin other’s content very seldom and all of my accounts grow without it. Check out this client’s organic growth that happened in 6 months with only pinning their own fresh content:
One secret to make this easy on you is to use a 3rd party scheduler. I use either Metricool or Tailwind because the workflow is way faster than Pinterest’s native scheduler and you can pin months in advance. Don’t worry, you won’t get penalized for using a scheduler other than Tailwind or Pinterest, that’s another one of those outdated practices that’s still floating around.

Happy Pinning,
